Cloud Gaiwan

Sitting poised, like layers of cirrus on the horizon, the profile wavering like the gentlest cumulus, and of bright celadon blue, this fine porcelain gaiwan suggests the very holotype of high, distant clouds, or perhaps even more so their idealized illustrations on vintage scrolls. Thin enough to let bright light through, it promises to elevate the everyday tea experience to the heavenly. Pair with brothy greens and whites for the brightest glow to seep through, or black tea for a beautiful, reddish contrast.

A saucered version of a design we've featured before by Ling Yin Ping, we were first struck by his work in Jingdezhen, where amongst the variety of fine porcelain, his ethereal take on classic designs is something special. Also on feature by him is the Heaven Set, which displays the same airy aesthetic.
