Luni

Pearl teapot

This miniature teapot is inspired by the Duo Qiu (多球), a classic Yixing design characterized by its harmonious three-ball shape. However, the Pearl teapot stands out with a flatter lid, earning it the unique name Duo Zhi. Retaining the signature rounded body and gently descending spout, this version is crafted from rare green clay, which imparts a slightly darker hue after firing, adding to its distinct charm.

The clay

The Pearl Yixing teapot is made of the Luni (绿泥) clay, a green ore extracted several years ago at a mine in the Yellow Dragon Mountain (Huanglong shan, 黄龙山).

Why is it called 'Spice'?

Duo Zhi is a traditional Yixing shape dating back to the mid-Qing Dynasty. The form of the pot resembles that of a container for spices and candies popular at that time. The container was called Duo Zi (掇子), which was pronounced with a sound not available in modern Mandarin. So, over the centuries, it was misspelled into Duo zhi (掇只), which is still today the name associated with this Yixing shape.

Why do I need a Yixing teapot?

The material and the shape of Yixing teapots are ideal for brewing tea. They bring out the tea flavour like no other tea vessel. Hand-made Yixing teapots are also valuable handicrafts sought after by collectors. Their value raises with time, usage, and artist popularity.

Yixing teapots are made of a rare and depleting clay mined in the mountains near Yixing, a city in the Jiangsu province. The high density yet porous nature of the clay absorbs the smell of the tea brewed in it. For this reason, it is advised to use the pot with only one kind of tea (for instance with black teas or green teas). Bring your tea to the next level; allow yourself an authentic Yixing teapot.
